Avolie Glass is a man and woman team, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are both glass artists in their own right, exhibiting their sculptural work at places such as the The Oakland Museum of California, National Liberty Museum, San Jose City Hall, and the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design. They also share a personal relationship, and after years of creating their individual work, found themselves wanting a separate outlet for their whimsical side. Soon the idea of working as a team to reinterpret the classics in functional glass art emerged.
Avolie Glass was born, allowing them to unite in a venture driven by creativity, enthusiasm, love, and the artistic process. They have been making glass art for nearly 20 years combined, and bring together their strengths to form a stronger whole. One member of the team is the backbone to their technical success, having had experiences such as working on projects for Dale Chihuly. The other half of Avolie Glass offers the artistic vision, and develops their rich color palette and designs. In working together, they merge their strengths, to make an exciting team in today's art glass scene.
They are classically trained in the Italian tradition of glass, but move beyond tradition in their designs. Their goal is to create a provocative fusion of those traditional Italian techniques, with a contemporary aesthetic. Avolie Glass specializes in offering new interpretations of the ordinary vase, bowl, or pumpkin. They sell their work at galleries throughout California, and can be found locally at Octavia's Haze Gallery in San Francisco, and the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design. Their work has been featured in articles in the Palo Alto Weekly and the San Francisco Chronicle, and they avidly support the glass arts through volunteer work and contributions to fundraising events. Avolie Glass is a unique partnership that reinterprets the classics and embraces change, infusing their art with personality and style that truly makes it one of a kind.
Artist Statement: The Transition to Avolie Glass
Glass, at its very core, is a fragile medium with unpredictable outcomes. Every day is an adventure, and the tenuousness of the creative process reminds us that things here today can be gone tomorrow. Our new company is a solid commitment to each other and a reminder that life, like glass, is fragile and something to be treasured. We want the radiance of glass art to enrich your life, and invite a moment of appreciation for the little things we often overlook in the hustle of our every day.
